Steampunk Tag

Steampunk Tag
Hello my crafty friends,
Have you ever felt that the night sky above us is so mysterious and yet so breathtakingly beautiful???? To me the each and every stars seems to tell a story. Even the tiniest of the stars have created a century long journey and bestows its shinny spark in the night sky. These tiny little stars gives me so much inspiration in life to move on and carry on whatever be the situation is like. Even though, how insignificant we think ourselves to be, we must remember our tiny lives means a lot and hold great importance to our near and dear ones. So never give up in life and when in doubt never stop looking up and as it has been rightly said "Go out and paint the stars"!!!!
And this is what the  Nomadicsouldiaries June Challenge for this month is about. This month their theme was to create any altered object or tag using the color palette and elements mentioned. For a long time, I was planning to make some steampunky project and when I saw their challenge then I decided what better way to create it now!!! So, today  I am going to share with you guys how I created a steampunk tag being inspired by the NSD challenge quote and will guide you through a step by step procedure of how to create this simple tag.

Material used:
Dies and moulds Shalini Agarwal
Chipboard sheet @ Papericious
Black gesso, metallic waxes , heavy gel medium, modelling paste, stencil @ Little Birdie Crafts
Paper Clay @ Dadarkar Arts
B6000 glue @Crafters corner
Easy cuts machine @dress my craft

Step 1: Preparing the base

First of all I have cut out a tag shaped piece from a chipboard sheet measuring approximately 6" in length and 3" in width.

Step 2: Adding textures

In the next step, I glued some die cut cogs and gears pieces over the base and applied a coat of black gesso over it. The die cut pieces gives a nice element of interest to the base of the tag. After that,  I used a stencil and modeling paste to give further textures here and there.

Step 3:  Giving a spark

Once done, I colored the entire background in black. To create extra layer of dimension i decided to mix the fairy dust sparkle in the shades gold, blue and magenta with black paint and applied here and there to the base.

Step 4: Coloring the base

To further highlight my textures I went in with the gold and blue metallic waxes to give the base a aged stone tablet kind of a look.

Step 5: Fiddling with the embellishments

In the next step I started to build up the composition by playing eith the placement of the embellishments.

Once happy with the composition and the elements to be used, I coloured all the embellishment with balck gesso so that everything blends in well.

Step 6: Finishing up

Next up I glued all the embellishments using heavy gel medium and B6000 glue. The heavy gel ensures permanent attachment of the heavy elements to the uneven base so that the project does not fall off easily in the long run. But since heavy gel takes ages to dry for instant attachment I like to use B6000.

Finally, I went in with navy blue, purple, violet and cerulean blue acrylic paints to give the tag a dash of the galaxy colors as indicated in the NSD challenge color palette. To give the entire project an element of shine I again applied the waxes here and there and also dusted the glitter particles over few embellishments.

Since the mandatory element was stars, so i cut out a big star of about 5 cm size from a scrap piece of cardboard and molded it to give it a 3D kind of a look. Finally, I took some small 3D star stickers from my stash and painted them with chrome acrylic paint and applied gold wax over it and stuck them to the tag in a scattered manner. And lasted I applied some yellow splatter over the tag because without splatter our lives are incomplete!!!!... Isn't it???

Here is the final and closed up look of the tag. Hope you all liked it. Stay safe and healthy!!!
